Chekyo Sports: Luc Duplesis

Monday, Jul 14, 2008 9:33 AM Luc Duplesis coached the 2000-'01 Bow Valley Bantam AA Timberwolves that included a team of talented youth from Canmore, Banff, Cochrane and Morley areas. The team logged home ice in Canmore, and when they hit the road they rode the bus to their destinations. Their coaching staff included two bench coaches, team mediator, skating consultant, team manager, travel manager and guest coaches. The team was the first to represent an amalgamation of communities. Various players from the squad have continued to play hockey at professional, CIS and NCAA levels. It was a challenging season that brought difference, common denominators, loss and victory in achieving short and long term goals. Ultimately the squad played approximately 70 games in a season that saw them secure the rural provincial championship that enabled them the right to play Red Deer (AAA). Their game against Red Deer would be the first AAA game played on Canmore ice. Duplesis shares his experience with the TImberwolves and discusses some positives, negatives and challenges that exist in minor hockey and more specifically Canmore.
